Happy Summer Solstice (this post a few days late) and Interdependence Day!

Our team is working overtime to catch up with all of our online communities, websites, and blogs after devoting the winter/spring months to helping Earth Charter US get their website/network launched as well as establishing solid Interdependent Partnerships (and terminating the not so solid ones)...so we look forward to being able to give a thorough report to all of you and give the website a much needed update!

For now though we wanted to simply give everyone our Solstice blessings and a little hint at what we have been up - a great deal of event participation/sponsorship and establishing the 'Low Impact Sustainable Development' agency and facilitating the formation of the "Inter-Tribal EcoVillage Council" here in our local area! More later!

2011 - Year of Building Sustainable Structures & Systems

Some times the term 'Happy New Year" just seems so redundant so we are going to see if 'Have a Sustainable New Year' might work? Or maybe "Have an Interdependent New Year? Both imply the same thing in terms of orientation yet interdependence is truly the underlying foundation that all sustainable systems and structures are built upon.

This year we are going to advance forward a little further into the basic building blocks of interdependent/sustainable systems in relation to the 'matrix network' that allows these digital fonts to embed themselves into this blog post which is linked with the blog, linked to the main website, linked to other websites, linked to website networks, linked to community networks, linked to organizations, linked to causes, linked to movements, linked to at long last - human beings.

At the beginning of 2010 the Interdependent Project's 1 year anniversary celebration 'Heralded in the Next Decade of Sustainable Interdependence'. The words on the banner seemed in alignment with the larger movement of the global collective and during 2010 the project went through quite an array of experiences with team members, fellowship organizations, network alliances, and organizations that this project has been promoting, advocating, and linking up with since it was launched. The experiences were valuable showcase examples of the 'independent' paradigm that is based on win/lose, competition, superiority, pecking-orders, and general human dysfunction and have served a purpose of providing a deeper clarity into why in the world there could be so many solutions and no way to implement them on a large scale.

One simple answer is the human subscription to the notion 'independence'. Humans en-mass believe 'independence' is the final and most exalted state of existence. Even humans who learn words like 'cooperation' and "collaborative' and profess those concepts to be woven into their missions still have not 'unsubscribed' from the independent notion and it is probably demonstrated most clearly in their inability to 'link up' and get beyond the 'not invented here' mentality that keeps them reinventing the wheel over and over. Not to mention wasting valuable resources on websites that keep ending up on the broken wagon wheel trail across the plains of the 'Wild West Web'...or worse still getting ripped off by charlatan-snake-oil-web-developers that convince the elder generation that if they pay more they will somehow be getting more...but that is another article and subject for later.

2010 was like a school year for those who have been involved with anchoring in a new paradigm of interdependence and sustainability. The global economic system has reflected a collapse as the new sustainable structures and systems are being erected. This transition has been both horrifying and glorious for humans who are riding these waves of change.

The Interdependent Project is both a 'place holder' and a 'stake holder' in this shift with a mission to showcase and highlight the 'solutions' that are emerging and forge alliances with networks and organizations who are committed to the never ending learning spiral as we weave interdependent systems and structures.

2011 will be the year of laying the four corner foundation that is based upon not a box with four sides but a planet with four directions that circle and encapsulate our spherical world. How does that translate to cyber-space and the 'Wild West Web"? A big lasso and 4 Years...GO....

Happy Holidays & Winter Solstice

On December 21, 2010, here in Nevada City, California at 3:38 PM Pacific Standard Time, 23:38 UTC (Universal Time) winter begins.

This first day of winter is called the Winter Solstice; likewise, the first day of summer is the Summer Solstice. The word solstice is derived from Latin and means “sun standing still.” On this day of the year, the sun’s apparent position in the sky has reached its most southern or northern extreme.

The solstices and the seasons occur because the Earth’s axis is tilted 23.5° relative to its plane of revolution around the sun.

In the Northern Hemisphere winter, the northern half of the globe is tilted away from the sun; therefore, the sun is low in the sky giving us shorter days and longer nights. At this oblique angle, the sun’s energy is spread over a larger area of the Earth’s surface and thus is weaker than if it was hitting the surface more directly. Also, the sun’s rays must travel through more atmosphere before they reach the Earth’s surface, and some of the solar energy is reflected back into space. In addition, there are less daylight hours to warm the Earth.

Contrary to what many believe, the Earth is not farther from the sun during the winter. Actually, the Earth is almost at its closest point to the sun at the time of the northern hemisphere’s Winter Solstice. This variation in the Earth’s distance from the sun is small and does not greatly affect the weather; however it does slightly modify the severity of the Northern Hemisphere winters and summers.

In the Southern Hemisphere, the Winter Solstice takes place on June 21, 2011 at 17:16 UTC (Universal Time). Our Winter Solstice is the southern hemisphere’s Summer Solstice..

Solstice Lunar Eclipse

Not only does the winter solstice of 2010 fall on the day of a full moon, which is a once in 30 years event, but that there will be a total lunar eclipse that night at just about midnight, Pacific time. (The eclipse makes it a 1/400 year sort of event.) A total lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, the Earth and the moon align. The moon is always full and it passes through Earth's umbral shadow, or the darkest part of the shadow.

That shadow is actually composed of two cone-shaped components, one nested inside the other. The outer or penumbral shadow is a zone where the Earth blocks part but not all of the Sun's rays from reaching the Moon. In contrast, the inner or umbral shadow is a region where the Earth blocks all direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.

This is also a time when the sun begins to make its way toward the dark part of the year. The sun's energy, power and dominance is waning, and winter approaching.

In the days which follow, the sun's strength begins to diminish or, in a spiritual sense, descend into the Mother's womb. This continues until the time when the sun's light is reborn at Yule or Winter Solstice, when we celebrate the birth of the Son of Light during a time of spiritual darkness.

Reflect on this sacred time, and notice the season change around you. Watch the Mother Earth tuck her seeds safely within her womb and cover them over with a comforting blanket of earth and fallen leaves and later snowfall. Watch also your animal cousins as they prepare for the approaching winter. Watch the sky and the sacred waters and seas. Listen to the gentle loving promise of the Universe to Mother Earth and all of her children.

"Never fear, our beloved Daughter Earth, for though the sunlight grows faint upon you, the light of the Son will soon return, that all creation may awaken and live again."

So this December 21, remember that even though winter is beginning, and the days will now grow longer and the nights ever shorter; and as we travel through space—around the sun—our Earthly seasons will repeat again and we will now start the journey towards Spring.

Change and be reborn this solstice.

2 Years of Interdependence and Jayátu A Tale Feather of the Golden Eagle

Seasons of Interdependence

It is hard for us to believe it has been 2 years already since we launched the Interdependent Project web portal and when we look back on everything that has happened in just 2 years it feels like it should have been twice or three times those 24 months to accommodate the activity!

When the web portal launched it was in the midst of holiday season and we knew that any future anniversary celebrations would have to be integrated into the holiday spirit of the season...those who have birthdays in December know all too well what we mean.

So this year we were fortunate enough to catch a holiday flight on the wings of a Golden Eagle named Jayátu! SeThInk Media, the parent company of the Interdependent Project, has launched the Jayátu project just this last week. Who is Jayátu?

Jayátu is a storyteller who has made the commitment to keeping the oral storytelling tradition alive and is making his art available now on the Wild West Web!

Jayátu and the 'art of storytelling' is also going to be featured in volume 2 of the Seeds of Sustainability Education Series. Volume 1: The Marche Sprouting Method was the first branch of the Tree of Sustainability: - Sustain Yourself. The next branch is the "Path of Beauty".

If the first step on the journey towards collective sustainability is to sustain oneself, then the second one is surely to find ones personal path of beauty - that which feeds your soul, inspires you to live your dreams, and fills your heart in challenging times. Without taking this step then our lives can be pretty colorless and appear to be dedicated to mundane survival. Throughout history it has always been the arts and music that keep the human spirit thriving, not just surviving. And without beauty being nurtured inside ourselves what is it that we truly wish to sustain? Even if the world was completely powered by alternative, clean, renewable energy sources and 100% organic if humans were stuck in fear and ugly behaviors the planet would not be a better place to live.

Art, music, literary masterpieces, poetry, and storytelling are the showcases of human creativity and the dispensers of beauty into the seen world. Many indigenous peoples walked a path of beauty because of the stories that were orally passed down generation after generation. These stories helped them to understand their place on Earth and their interdependence with all life. The oral tradition almost became extinct with the advent of the written word and the storytellers of modern day are a rare breed of humans who know and understand the magic of a story that is spoken from the heart of the storyteller.

All of us have a story and Jayátu is also a teacher of storytellers. Volume 2 of the Seeds of Sustainability series will be an educational DVD intended to inspire and guide folks to birth their own storyteller into the world. Time Banks

We recently featured this video on the Sustain Yourself page that was all about 'Time Banks" and we wanted to do a blog post about this new initiative. Time banking is about spending an hour doing something for someone in your community and that hour goes into a Time Bank as a Time Dollar. Then you have that Time Dollar to spend on having someone do something for you. It is an awesome way to build community connections which is the core philosophy behind Time Banks. A Time Bank begins with a core group of committed individuals who are joined together for the common good. Time Banks create a system that connects unmet needs with untapped resources with a community.

Time is something we seem to never have enough of because most of us are spending all of our time trying to generate money. These new Time Banks may be manifestation of the 'Time is Money" saying that we have all heard for years. Where we live we have seen many alternative currency and barter systems try to launch and take hold in our community. We believe they failed primarily because there was no strong organizing structure behind them. That is what is very appealing about the Time Bank - the structure and organization of this new model is incredibly strong. When you go to the website you will see that they have all of the resources you will need to learn about and begin your own Time Bank in your community. The software platform is very impressive and allows for a uniform process to be implemented with enough customization to make your communities Time Bank unique. Besides the strong organization and structure the philosophy behind these Time Banks has 5 core values which are the binding glue of Time Bank members:

#1 - Assets - We are all assets and every human being has something to contribute.
#2 - Redefining Work - Some work is beyond price. Work has to be redefined to value whatever it takes to raise healthy children, build strong families, revitalize neighborhoods, make democracy work, advance social justice, and make the planet sustainable. That kind of work needs to be honored, recorded, and rewarded.
#3 - Reciprocity - Helping works better as a two-way street. The question "how can I help you? needs to change so we ask 'how can we help each other build the world we both will live in?
#4 - Social Networks - We need each other. Networks are stronger than individuals. People helping each other reweave communities of support, strength and trust. Community is built upon sinking roots, building trust, and creating networks. Special relationships are built on commitment.
#5 - Respect - Every human being matters. Respect underlies freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and everything we value. Respect supplies the heart and soul of democracy. When respect is denied to anyone, we all are injured. We must respect where people are in the moment, not where we hope they will be at some future point.

With these 5 Core Values at the foundation of each Time Bank one could easily project a long term self sustaining Bank that won't have to ask for government bailouts or collapse under the current economic chaos. We are going to try to set one up in our community and we strongly encourage you to check it out for yours!

Equinox Blessings & Project Report/Update

Greetings Sustainable Matrix Weavers!

It is Fall Equinox 2010 here in the northern hemisphere and the Spring Equinox in the southern hemisphere. Equinox is the balance between daylight and nighttime hours and we are seeking to strike that balance within ourselves and our work as we move toward the winter season for us.The summer of 2010 has been full of major transitions for us here at the Interdependent Project headquarters. Most of the shifts began to accelerate right after Earth Day. Whenever changes happen and new opportunities open up it becomes necessary to examine the current list of priorities and sometimes dump excess and unproductive projects/initiatives into the recycle bin as we move and shift focus on what gets attention. Some would say that is healthy evolution....

We had been spending a great deal of energy on team building/relationships and in May there was a team summit that brought about a shift in priorities as well as a deeper understanding of how the word 'cooperative' is not necessarily defined and translated the same for everyone. We found that many people think cooperative is married to compromise and we respectfully disagree with that association. Therefore the Interdependent Project is now being managed not by a 'team' but by the uncompromising founders.

We actually do strive towards cooperation however and an opportunity to do so emerged at the end of June when Ning announced the no more 'free' networks that knocked many folks out of the social network arena. We committed ourselves to the next stage of evolution for this project and by July SeThInk Media (parent company of the Interdependent Project) became the sponsor, and we managers, of the Transition California Network. A great deal of our time was spent during the month of August integrating and serving the evolution of that network. September has been a month of catching up with network/site management and launching into the next phase.

And what is the next phase?

We are happy to report that our main focus is going to be geared towards facilitating the importation of the protocols that were established by the Lammas EcoVillage in Wales for EcoVillage & Low Impact Sustainable Development here into the United States.

We feel the one of the biggest foundational priorities for these current times is to institute new frameworks for how we live on this Earth and it begins with our own homes/family/communities. The EcoVillage model is just one of the new emerging models and we are committed to building upon the success of Lammas through the further development of this model as a viable way for us to achieve sustainable living. We are developing a strategy for the successful importation and translation of the zoning/building/application protocols and welcome participation from any of you who may share in our deeper convictions about the need for new sustainable community models that are legal and accepted by local planning departments.

The main website is also updated with a great deal of new content and a new navbar. We have some new Interdependent Fellowship organizations and initiatives that will receive a great deal of focus from us in the coming months. We are deeply saddened to report the apparent demise of NextGEN (The Next Generation EcoVillage Network) which we are still in the process of understanding why they are no longer online. The NextGEN handbook is still available for download because it is full of structural ideas and concepts that can be used by folks wanting to keep moving forward. We will give you updates as we learn more.

The private Interdependent Project Community Sphere network will be receiving attention and focus as well this winter and we are in the process of interviewing new Executive Administrators to help that network evolve toward its value fulfillment. There are currently 13 communities participating and over 100 members.

The public Sustainable Matrix Weavers network will also be seeing a new infusion of activity and content geared towards delivering inspiring sustainable solutions that are springing up under our feet everyday from around the world and in some cases in your neighborhood. Please share and contribute to the network any videos, blog content, or discussions that may have come into your own radar. It is impossible for us to gather all the emerging information and we appreciate you weaving positive solutions with us into this matrix. We have added some new tabs on the menu bar to enhance connectivity between the networks and initiatives we are currently supporting and involved with and we invite you to check them out.

There is much more to report and will do so over the coming weeks as things develop and solidify.

What is Interdependence?

This is the question that many of us will be asking in the coming decades as we transition to a sustainable global culture. As we evolve our understandings we will be able to bring deep definitions from first hand experiences in discovering and exploring our interdependence with all life.

We are at the beginning of this journey so it is a good idea to at least check out existing definitions for a good starting place. Wikipedia offers this definition:

Interdependence is a dynamic of being mutually and physically responsible to, and sharing a common set of principles with, others. This concept differs distinctly from "dependence" in that an interdependent relationship implies that all participants are emotionally, economically, ecologically and or morally "interdependent." Some people advocate freedom or independence as a sort of ultimate good; others do the same with devotion to one's family, community, or society. Interdependence recognizes the truth in each position and weaves them together. Two states that cooperate with each other are said to be interdependent.

The part about 'sharing a common set of principles' is probably where the rubber hits the road for some. Values and principles are usually rooted in one's unique culture so in order for 'interdependence' to be able to take root on a global scale there must be universal shared principles? That is where sustainability comes into the equation and allows all humans to adopt shared principles in relationship to our shared future well being.

The Earth Charter Initiative is celebrating it's 10th year since the release of The Earth Charter - Values & Principles for a Sustainable Future. You can learn about the how the Earth Charter was drafted in this Interdependent Project Radio interview with Steven Rockefeller who was chair person for the drafting committee or visit the Earth Charter website.

The Interdependent Project is celebrating the Earth Charter through promoting the 'Earth Scouts' - a new program for children that was launched by the Earth Charter US. There is a new network currently being created that will be launching soon that we have been supporting.

We are also celebrating through our ongoing commitment to share and promote the Earth Charter as a valuable tool for bringing all of us into harmonious interdependence from solid shared values and principles for a sustainable future!

Looking back February 2009 - Getting the Sphere ready to launch & Re-Branding

Happy Imbolc - February 2nd!

When the Interdependent Project was first created the first intent was to create a functional, dynamic, and private social network that would serve existing/developing EcoVillages and sustainable communities at no cost to the communities.

All of us at the Interdependent Project have worked, lived, and traveled to various sustainable communities and EcoVillages throughout our lives and the one common need that we have seen among these communities was a solid online networking hub that would allow connections to happen between communities.

In February 2009 we began building this hub and making contact with the first 4 communities that would populate what we called the "Interdependent EcoVillage & Community Sphere". Susan Frank joined the core team to serve as the Executive Administrator and provide guidance and support to the Sphere community.

The Sphere is by invitation only and provides a safe sanctuary for members to share information, resources, trade between communities, and connect with each other. The Sphere was officially launched on the Spring Equinox 09 and has been steadily growing as we make contact with specific communities that our team feels would benefit from the Sphere. One of ours goals is to be able to publish resources and information that member communities would like to share publicly on the main website and through various publications as it evolves through SeThInk Media, the Interdependent Project parent company, digital publishing services.

Branding
Independent/Interdependent Conference 09

On our last blog post we promised we would share the story of the re-branding of the Interdependent Project shortly after the launch. Some of you who have been with the Interdependent Project since the launch remember the original logo and red/black theme of the website. And some of you might also remember a 5 day period in February 09 when the main website had a message saying, "Site temporarily down for Independent/Interdependent Conference" on the index page.

The brand consisted of interlocking Canterbury Cross's (in the spirit of the Flower of Life) and we developed it as a 'transformative derivative work' from the Independent Truck NHS logo (skateboard trucks).

The cross itself, being an ancient symbol, cannot be copyrighted and the way in which we developed it was protected under 'fair use' copyright laws.

Before we launched the project we envisioned how skaters could be harbingers of the evolved paradigm of interdependence and sustainability.

Also our deceased and beloved team member Beau Shaver was a skater and the design was also in tribute to him.

We attempted to contact the NHS corporate heads to invite them to jump on board with a win/win strategy but contacting them was harder than chasing someone on a skateboard - their website does not give email addresses for board members and there appeared to be a certain anarchy in their structure. We finally found one of their directors of marketing, Keith Wilson, on facebook and tried to contact him but never got a response.

Well months later at the end of February 09 we were contacted by the president and CEO Bob Denike. At first we were excited to have made contact finally and were hopeful that our 'youthful idealism' would inspire Bob to see what we felt was an obvious alliance full of great potentials and possibilities...uh hmm...well the learning spiral never ends right. We had a conference via emails and Bob and NHS has absolutely zero interest in an alliance and basically told us that they believed we were infringing upon their copyrighted logo. We consulted with our attorney and decided that although we were protected under the 'fair use' copyright laws we had zero interest in the win/lose paradigm of court battles.

So full of mirth and zest we re-launched and re-branded with what we feel is a much better logo and a clear understanding of why Beau always said, "Embrace skating, condemn skateboarding..."

We are grateful to have been given the opportunity to experience the Win/Win of Interdependent thinking!

This Time Last Year - Interdependent Project Radio

By this time last year we were well into the launching of the Interdependent Project Radio on Modavox's new Green Talk Network. So why did radio programming cease?

The whole internet radio program developed the summer of 2008 when we contacted an internet talk radio platform and requested that they add a new category called 'sustainability' for interview shows we wanted to do that featured the best of the best pioneers, educators, and leaders within the sustainability movement.

Those of you who have been with us since back then probably remember the excited emails we sent out explaining that we had been offered our own 24/7 channel on their platform after sharing with them our program ideas - verbally that is. After we spent months lining up guests, the representative who had made the offer dropped the bomb on us and told us that the agreement he had made earlier was now null and void.

We are intentionally leaving out some sordid details not to save them from any bad press but to save you the time in having to read it. First big lesson on this learning spiral - "get it in writing" (sad but true when dealing with entities that missed the course on win/win realities).....

So we contacted Modavox and they appeared to be an upgrade - next lesson - "don't be fooled by appearances" - and we then went into a - get this - 'non-cancelable' contract (as if such a thing really exists) with a promise of millions of listeners and movable audio widgets. After one month of broadcasting and a less than desirable Google Analytics report we decided to cancel the deal for more reasons than we can even share openly here.

It was then that we decided it would be best to simply get our own licenses and launch our own radio network. We set a goal to resume broadcasting after the release of Volume I of the Seeds of Sustainability Education Series...another lesson - "if you want something done right do it yourself."

We lamented the fact that these old proverbial sayings proved to be true in our learning spiral and we are confident that many more will hold up as we progress down the path of inspired idealistic folly. We imagine we will somewhere in here cross the dreaded path that 'they' have all warned us about - the place where you simply realize your efforts have all been in vain and that you cannot stray outside of the box and refuse to adhere to rules without having to..uhumm..compromise your principles "like we all had to - you know - 'bite the bullet' or 'wake up and smell the coffee' or even god forbid 'grow up' right?

We'll see...until we get there though we can only say that as long as we are having fun - which we are - it matters not one iota how others judge and measure our successes or failures.

So on that note - we are stoked to be going into the next stage of planning for the Interdependent Project Radio. We hope you have appreciated this behind the scenes and candid sharing. Interdependent Project Celebrates Core Team Members

Everyone knows how hard it is to birth an excellent team and the Interdependent Project has been blessed to have attracted core team members who are aligned with it's mission. In the beginning we had some team members who fully supported the project during its launch phase and contributed energy in ways that fueled the rockets to get lift off and their contributions were invaluable. But just as the solid rocket boosters must fall away as orbit is made these team members had other commitments to fulfill and directions they were heading. The Interdependent Project is celebrating its one year since launch and we want to celebrate the team members who have made this past year a deep success as well as introduce new team members who will be helping to set coordinates as we navigate through the global transition to a sustainable future.

Beginning in May 2009 team member Susan Frank who is the executive administrator of the Interdependent Community Sphere began a 6 month 'Communities and Sustainable 'green' Events Tour' that took her across the United States to visit developing/existing sustainable communities and attend/volunteer at events/festivals that were focused on 'green' and sustainable living themes. As the Interdependent Project Media Ambassador Susan conducted interviews and produced videos throughout her journey and blogged her travels as she immersed herself in many different worlds that share a common vision of a sustainable future. We are featuring her videos and posting links to her stories on the main site. Most of her travels and experiences were incredibly positive and enriching but she also shares her own perspective of some of the shortcomings and disappointments that she encountered as well.

Susan was a student as Prescott University during her travels and much of her work was also course related for her degree which she successfully earned in December 09`. Her reports to the Interdependent Project during her travels also contributed to changes and re-shaping of the IP strategies and alliances. Susan has set a standard for the project of the high quality commitment and dedication we are striving for with our core team and her contributions are impeccable. Thank you Susan!

MEET EVAN SPURRELL

Evan T. Spurrell joins the Interdependent Project core team from ground zero of the project's second year since launch. He is the founder of the Permaculture Production Crew which is a campus club at Sierra College. Evan leads students into the realm of Earth Stewardship/regenerative projects and inspires students to learn permaculture practices within urban and rural environments. We met Evan at the Seeds of Sustainability DVD release party and were instantly impressed with his authentic and sincere dedication to world-bridging solutions to those who have limited access to the solutions that exist and perhaps have been living in a state of hopelessness around the global problems. Evan will be participating in the production of Volume 2 of the Seeds of Sustainability Education Series and working with the team to further the goals of the Interdependent Project. We are stoked to have you aboard Evan!

We also want to give a special thanks to Vladimir Frolov, Josh Green aka 'Electrolysis', Robin Marche, Jason Deptula and Alayne Chauncey for the rocket fuel they continually have provided to keep this ship in orbit.

Happy New Decade!

1 - 10 - 10...we thought we would wait a bit before we posted about the turning of the first decade of the new millennium...and what a turning it has been! The Interdependent Project is celebrating it's 1 year anniversary for the rest of the month of January and we have updated the main website with new content and cleaned the site up a bit....

2009 was an epic year for us and we were actually pretty amazed at how much our team accomplished and learned. We have often used the terms 'running sideways' and 'learning spirals' in many of our posts and emails because the truth of the matter was when we began we had nothing but our unbending intent to 'Dream It-Do It' - Youth Venture slogan...

Many along the way scoffed at our idealistic grandiose goals and we have had our fair share of shocking obstacles and hurdles to jump over. Humor was our savior during the worst parts and as we learned we made sure to take note of the lessons in ways that allowed us to further develop the 'standards' we would be sure to go by in the future.

The launching of this project began in 2008 when we received a small seed grant from Youth Venture with the intent to launch a private online networking hub for EcoVillages and sustainable communities. That was when the project was named and the first mission statement was developed. The universe decided to give us an opportunity - that turned out to be a lesson and then another opportunity - that turned into lesson - again and again in relationship to this project. So are we more knowledgeable now?

We believe in the Golden Dragon Rule:

“Life's secret lies in Comprehension rather than only in Knowledge."

The Tree of Sustainability page on the main site finally has an article written on it and we invite you to check it out and let us know if it is 'comprehensible'....

Titans of Transition

Equinox - 12 hours day, 12 hours night - perfect balance at the point of shift...the Titans of Transition awaken as the collective of humanity unites with a shared vision of a healthy and sustainable world. This image is dedicated to these Titans and as we move toward the end of 2009 may we all take time each day to nurture ourselves and strengthen our interdependent bonds.

We know as we awaken to our own personal power to create the world we all envision there will be many who arise from our collective who embody the characteristics that we are all cultivating within ourselves. As leaders of leaders these individuals are upheld among us as our collective voice and will expressed through their words and actions. As we honor them we are honoring ourselves because they represent us. Summer & Seeds of Sustainability

Almost the end of August and we have been working since Earth Day on the Seeds of Sustainability program. The learning spiral never ends on this path of regenerative media. Our team is small and the list of things to do endless during this hot summer. We realized too late that we did not make a post to this blog for the June 21st Interdependence Day celebration - duh - so here is a link to the page with the special radio broadcast and videos celebrating the event. We shamelessly admit that more than 50% of our time is spent outdoors stewarding the Land of Dandarius here in Northern Caly. 60 acres of land inspires a huge amount of devotion. We also had some computer problems here - operating systems going haywire (Vista sucks) and master computer crashing and giving its final beep goodbye. We have Linux now on the previous Vista computer and a new big mamma computer which is still getting all of the programs reloaded but she's a serious machine with 200GB - and we are getting a 2000GB external hardrive for all of the media we plan to launch this fall/winter. We hope to have the dvd done within the next couple weeks but we know better than to set ourselves up for any 'dates'...this project has a spirit and clock of it's own.

Greetings Sustainable Matrix Weavers

I have been commissioned to give you all a full report of the Stage Two Launch of the Interdependent Project. Those of you who have been with us since Stage One launch know that the Interdependent Project's main website, Interdependent Project Radio, the Interdependent Project Community Sphere, and the Seeds of Sustainability Program were the focus of Stage One Launch. Because the team is on a "learn as they go" mission the learning spiral involved in getting this matrix weaved was full of wild rides, unexpected surprises as well as disappointments, exciting connections with amazing individuals/organizations, and new friends joining the team.

The re-branding of the whole project was a huge undertaking and Dandarius is going to write a small and humorous ebook 'expose`' revealing the behind the scenes drama for those who might be interested in what kind of details have been involved in the creation of this multi-media portal.

Interdependence Day marked the beginning of the Stage Two Launch which encompasses the following projects goals:

Interdependent Ambassador Susan Frank's community tour and media outreach for the summer and fall. Susan is visiting many communities striving for sustainable living and attending events focused on 'green' themes. She will be spending a great deal of time at the Tennessee Farm as an apprentice to core team member Greg Landua helping the Farm prepare for the upcoming Bioregional Congress that is being hosted at the Farm. You can keep up with Susan's tour on her blog and if you are interested in attending please contact Susan directly so that she can have you on her own guest list during your visit!

Seeds of Sustainability will be releasing the first educational DVD that introduces master sprouting alchemist and core team member Robin Marche's revolutionary sprouting and living oils methods. These methods show how to make the highest quality sprouted vegetables using simple methods that eliminate the need to do daily rinsing and how to create living oils from nuts and seeds. You can download a free ebook and join the S.O.S. community if you are into accessing new and simple ways to add the highest living nutritious foods to your diet. Members of the private Interdependent Community Sphere (EcoVillages and Sustainable Communities) will be gifted a free digital download of the DVD and the team is going to give all members of the Interdependent Project an opportunity for a free download as well...more about that soon....

The Interdependent Community Sphere will be expanding this summer now that the first four communities have provided the feedback and joined the platform that is going to allow these communities to expand their connections with each other. It has been very exciting for the team to provide this private platform to these pioneers of sustainable living and try to find ways of serving their needs. 10+ new communities will be invited this summer into the Sphere and Susan will be recommending more during her travels.

The Interdependent Project Radio....as you all know the first 11 launch shows were a great success in many ways. The Green Talk Radio network however proved to not quite be the best platform in the teams opinion for future shows so radio broadcasting temporarily ceased while the team has been learning how to launch their own network. They are hoping to be able to resume broadcasting late fall/early winter when everyone is back indoors and ready for more cutting edge 'best of the best' in sustainable solutions. They still have many unbroadcasted/archived interviews with people like Earnest Callenbach, author of Ecotopia, and many more on cue so please stay tuned. There will be special broadcasts during the summer to keep you all up to date on great events like the Bioregional Congress and others that the team has time to produce.

Speaking of time...there never seems to be enough lately and I have watched the team struggle with this issue the most. Weaving a high quality matrix like the Interdependent Project is a huge time commitment and during these past few months the team has had a few challenges to overcome so they feel bad that they have not been able to keep up with a great deal of email communications and project related content. I have volunteered to help them in many ways but they still need team members who can contribute time and talent. They are currently looking for dedicated individuals to volunteer for the following areas:

~Full time video producer/editor for published digital DVD's and YouTube movies.
~~Radio hosts to do interviews in the 10 categories of the Sustainable Matrix. One host per category - we already have regular host lined up for the Earth Shelters and Sustain Yourself shows but need someone for others.
~~~Audio editor for radio shows
~~~~Webmaster to work with Dar on site updates/upgrades.
~~~~~Interdependent Partners marketing director.
~~~~~~Networkers to help weave Interdependent connections
~~~~~~~Language translators for audio and video

The Interdependent Project team is committed to the next 7 generations...that is 150 years approximately and although that is not much for us Trolls it can seem like forever to humans. I believe those of you who are making a deep commitment to the future have a part of your being already living there enjoying the fruits of the Tree of Sustainability that you are planting right now. I also believe humans are not far from unlocking the door to living even far beyond that time span by opening yourselves to the magic of life NOW.

Happy Interdependence Day!

Interdependence Day message from Daniel Cavallaro, founder of the Interdependent Project:

What have we learned in the past three years in developing this project?

Interdependence is not easy....

It requires us to reprogram ourselves everyday and rethink every idea and belief system that we have been operating in up until now. These are challenging times for humanity, and the challenges are only going to increase. Fortunately for us, this will also mark a time of coming together in ways that we did not even consider possible before. Challenges have the potential to bring out the best of us as individuals, and as a unified collective.

The changes are happening so fast that looking for balance is a moot point, and all we can do is ride the wave of constant adaptation and recalibration. There have been many upheavals in the lives of everyone, including the members of the interdependent project. No matter how bleak or challenging it may seem to go through this constant change, the fact that we are all together is a source of unending strength as everything (including the structure of this project) dies and is reborn over and over and over again.

When we look back at what our plans were at the beginning of this journey, and how many mutations that has gone through, with the only constant being our intent, its hard to hold back the tears as we remember the challenges and obstacles we have grown through continually having to overcome.

On this day, the first global Interdependence Day, I invite you all to find your Interdependent tribe and let them know just how much their presence has meant in your life. I know that I would not be the person I am today if it was not for everyone connected to this project. Even those who tried to embrace interdependence but were unable to make that final leap have taught me many lessons and contributed to my sense of calm unity (community) more than they could ever imagine. To all of you who have supported this project, thank you, and happy Interdependence Day 2009.

Greetings Sustainable Matrix Weavers!

There are many global and local celebrations/events happening around sustainable living these transition days – so many in fact that they are hard to keep up with! To us this really shows how much humanity is awakening and evolving towards our next step as a species – the step towards sustainable living. Today was World Environment Day World Environment Day (WED) which was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Commemorated yearly on 5 June, WED is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.

This past month we also completed the Children’s Agenda International ~ “Heralding in the Age of the Child” website for a good friend of ours who lives in Sierra Leone – Bamine Boye. We met Bamine through the Youth Venture network and have been working with him since last year to launch his organizations website. We were so happy to see the site go live on June 2nd and we are committed to helping CAI’s efforts to bring sustainable solutions to the world’s children.

Now that the private community sphere is up and being vibrantly populated with the first four communities that were invited – Findhorn, The Farm, Terra Sante, and Lammas – we will be inviting more communities on Interdependence Day to enter the “Sphere” and begin weaving with all the amazing kindred who are pioneering sustainable living.

Happy Earth Day!!!

The main website is now live and RE-Branded...it is like the Matrix ReLoaded and we are stoked on the new look, feel, and navigation...so far...

We make mention on the site that we are going to be writing an expose' on why we changed the logo and everything we have learned this past year - a Stage One report that is guaranteed to make you laugh (most important), raise some eyebrows, shock, and perhaps outrage some part of you that actually needs to be felt by the part of you that has numbed out to the crap we all go through whenever we attempt to pursue our dreams.

With that said we want to let you all know that we would love to hear what you think of the new logo and site. As always we respond well to feedback.

We wanted to share on this special Earth Day post a story that was written by core team member Susan Frank that she published today in the private Interdependent Community Sphere called "Earth Day Story". We did not ask Susan if we could publish it here so it may or may not stay up on this blog but we were so inspired by it and we felt it really deserved to be published in the outer matrix. Thank you Susan and if you would rather this jewel remain private we totally respect that.

The following is my vision for The Sphere...... A wise person once told me that the way to create your vision is to see it clearly, then walk yourself back in time to watch unfold how you got there, to see each step. So on this Earth Day, let's put our collective minds and hearts together and envision what great things this place can, and will, become.....

It's Earth Day 2012, three years since the launching of the Community Sphere networking platform of the Interdependent Project. Little did we know when we created this realm that it was going to lead to so many incredible connections and benefit so many people and communities. Just goes to show how good ideas can spread virally, infecting us with positive vibes as we inspire each other and improve our lives.

There seems to always be something happening in the sphere. One thought tends to spur a flurry of interesting ideas. One request for an answer brings more than the asker could desire, giving them choices of how to best construct their new straw bale, or what ingredient makes for the best humanure concoction, or where to find the best quality, least expensive materials for a 1000 gallon rainwater harvesting system, or what method of canning is the best for tomatoes.....

Right now there is a bio-diesel truck bringing organic produce from 3 farms in the same region of northern California to 3 communities in Colorado, who in turn are sending grains and spices to be dropped off in Arizona, where the truck will pick up building materials for a project back in CA. The truck owner, George from Biggimus Riggimus Community in Truckee, CA, got the great idea to become a driver to move products around the country to help communities trade with each other while promoting the use of bio-diesel. At his community stops he puts on workshops to teach others how to convert their vehicles, and he almost always gets questioned everywhere he goes from strangers whose interests are piqued by the great info and mural on the sides of his truck. Those were done, by the way, with eco-friendly paints by “Patrick The Eco-friendly Painter Guy” we all know and adore, who traded for a ride to the west coast to help supervise a painting project at a community he connected with on the Sphere. George thinks he needs to add two more trucks already, because since he posted his original idea on the Sphere to start this trade route, he has connected with so many communities with items to offer into the system, he can't keep up! The Sphere barter network started to work with him and provided the capital for his road expenses from the funding received from the Interdependent Project's Foundation “seedling” grant program. Imagine- we are on the way towards a fleet of bio-diesel trucks to move items traded among communities! The more trucks and the larger the barter network grows, the less driving each truck will have to do because we can keep the produce as local as possible. Another great “side effect”- George met the love of his life Georgina when he was delivering some homemade organic chocolates and freshly harvested strawberries to her community Lovespirit. How could she resist such a delivery right to her community kitchen?

Recently the Alpha Cmty posted a need for 3 people to come help them build a greenhouse, and offered in return 3 people to offer services in teaching permaculture techniques. What happened was Beta Cmty needed some help building a cob house, and Delta Cmty, an up and coming sustainable farm, needed some advice and help with planting their first seeds of their first crops. So Delta sent some help for the cob building because they lived closest to Beta, who in turn sent some help for greenhouse building because they had people traveling in the neighborhood of Beta who happened to have experience building greenhouses, and Alpha sent some help to Delta to advise them on how to work with their land sustainably.

These kinds of multi-community trades happen all the time now! It is amazing what happens when you ask for help in the Sphere.

We have watched various communities with products and services be able to more broadly market themselves and their wares through the Sphere, as well as start trading for their needs with other communities. Having so many things available in one place with the IP brand and seal of sustainability has also given communities more opportunity to create wealth from the IP main website, and as the Matrix has garnered such a mass of public attention, we are getting feedback that community sales are way up!

The IP media company has done a tremendous job of promoting online workshops, dvd courses and demos on everything from SOS (Seeds of Sustainability) to building your humanure hut to one community's documentary on how they went from a struggling farm to a successful permaculture education center with the help of the Sphere communities. Their radio shows, community podcasts, and “Interviews from the Road” series are all getting worldwide acclaim!

A great core team of experts in green building, off grid energy systems design, rainwater harvesting systems, and various aspects of permaculture formed to offer their help to upstart communities in exchange for room, board and traveling expenses, and so far they have traveled to 6 states already and been a wealth of help to places which really needed it. In addition, the outpouring of support from established ecovillages and communities towards struggling new communities has led to a measurable jump in the success rate of intentional communities worldwide.

Last year some of our European community partners got together and finally met each other in person at Lammas Ecovillage in a gathering to celebrate how far they have come since they first helped develop the Sphere. We all know how much hard work it was as we virtually observed their progress, and many of us wished we could have been there to toast their success in person and witness the results of so many of their plans which have come to fruition. However, we were there in spirit and online because they posted a live podcast to the Sphere allowing us to share the joy around the world.

This year there is momentum building for a massive ride share caravan of Sphere members to converge on Terrasante for a work project week focused on helping them finish the creation of their solar and wind powered microgrid system, following by a huge drum circle event that I suspect will be worth however much effort is put forth during the week. Really, when it comes down to it, this kind of action can't even be called “work”- when so many caring and committed people come together to help each other, it is too much fun to be called work, isn't it? That is why I love the term “work party”, cause when communitarians really get their groove on with a project, it's always a party atmosphere!

Ride share situations have also popped up to help people get to events such as the Bio-Regional Congress two years going now. We have heard some great stories of the connections made while traveling to events!

Melvin and Misha figured out how to build a super efficient solar water heater inspired by a discussion started in the sphere. They create a dvd with instructions on how to build it yourself which they offered to free for all Sphere members, and their sales on the IP main site to the public have skyrocketed! With input from several people, the idea formed almost instantly!

Oh, and the philosophical discussions have been fascinating! Not to mention the incredible loving support, the guidance given, the humor....

Its all about networking. The internet age has allowed us to create a web of connection, free flowing info, knowledge, and ideas which have generated this amazing opportunity for all of us. It has allowed us to strengthen our communities, to find and create resource, to have a wealth of perspectives at our fingertips. Technology can indeed make our lives easier, when the human element is not forgotten. Here in the Sphere we connect humans, really, though, people began connecting with each other naturally, and the energy has just built upon itself, flowing and evolving as more people joined and added their energy.

There isn't a way to gauge these sort of things I suppose. When Dandarius began this adventure they had vision and heart, two main ingredients for creating something incredible. Their belief in what can be was the seed that blossomed into this great space we call The Sphere. Being motivated by hope and possibility, sharing their ideas and inspiring others to join in, moving forward with a positive attitude paid off- now this garden is in full bloom, thanks to them and to all of your who have helped it to grow. Whether you have played in The Sphere just a few minutes a week, or have put hours into it when moved to do so, you are all responsible for making it what it has become today.

So thank you for being a part of this amazing, ever unfolding experience! May The Sphere continue to inspire us, to guide us, to infuse us with energy and ideas, to create abundance for each of our lives and our communities, and to lead us together into a future that is increasingly more and more focused on sustainable solutions for the good of people everywhere and for the planet Earth!

Blazing Through the Sky....

So many of you have noticed that our site is "Down for Independent/Interdependent Conference" - we are biting at the bit to share the story of what has been happening with the project but we seriously have not had any time at all to write. The Community Sphere has launched, we are writing our articles of incorporation as a "Common Good 'B' Corp", re-branding/launching the main website, working with new team members, and going into Stage 2 launch Interdependence Day - June 21st....

You have seen a glimpse of the new brand/logo on the index page and we are now in here doing some decorating/updating and had to at least leave a note for everyone....

Equinox brought a great deal of changes that have given us an opportunity to super-fine-tune this projects quality standards and priorities. Stage 1 launch catapulted us through a series of gauntlets that were made of plastic and wax which gave us a serious education on how people generally view and treat those who follow their dreams/visions.

Has not tainted us in the least though - we are going into Stage 2 with more fuel because we are no longer going to waste fuel trying to find fuel - we have realized that WE are the fuel and our rose colored glasses and naivety our greatest asset in a time when those who have the "Audacity to Hope" are the ones accomplishing their goals.

If all of this is a little confusing don't worry - we will be publishing a complete behind the scenes expose` that will bring it all into focus soon...

Until then remember - there is no way to convince the dependent nor independent entity that interdependent is the evolved path - Interdependent must focus on it's own evolution as the new entity on the block whose destiny is to demonstrate through its own existence a quality standard that leads to true sustainable living...AND...to choose interdependence is not an easy path - so we are no longer going to "invite" you to declare your interdependence - we are going to "dare" you!

Getting to Know the Weavers!

We want to thank those of you who took the time to participate in providing much needed feedback and we are stoked about getting to know all of you more....some pretty amazing individuals are coming into this matrix to anchor in our "quality" standards with their presence - thank you. It is awesome to meet all of you learn more about your own personal visions. If you have not had a chance please introduce yourself and let us know what you think of the project so far.
We will be posting a similar survey now on the main page of the site in about 2 weeks. Your feedback is being translated into action and we will have some pretty exciting announcements coming up soon about Stage Two of the launch...

Right now though we need to still concentrate on getting the doors to the Community Sphere open for our participating sustainable communities and EcoVillages and completeing our articles of incorporation as a "B" Corp.

As you all should know by now this project is "youth led" which means we know exactly what we are doing but we don't know a thing about how we are doing it - we are just doing it! We are posting some great informative videos about "B" corporations on our "NOW" page for any of you who are wondering what it is that we are trying to create as a multi-media corporation.

We need to re-invent how media works with this project and we are looking to transcend the traditional media/advertiser model with a new model - a new model that is being molded as we type! We have gotten as far as we have with a small seed grant from Youth Venture and some other small but significant cash chunks that enabled us to pay for some of the fees associated with this launch.

We also want to thank those of you who have submitted content for the site and made suggestions over these past two weeks. We will be posting it with the next site update once we finalize your permissions.

Welcome into the interdependent sphere Susan!

Susan Frank lives in Pine, AZ, and is a student in the experiential and self-directed adult degree program of Prescott College in Prescott, AZ, studying management and organization for sustainable community.

She has a varied background from crafty entrepreneurial endeavors to business administration and management, from bookkeeping to book publishing. Her years in Boulder, CO directing an artist cooperative in the 90's left a solid impression of how powerful and creative teamwork can be.

Susan has had a long term interest in sustainable intentional communities and is passionate about the benefits of cooperation. She is thrilled to be involved in a project that brings people together in the name of sustainability.

As the Executive Administrator of the Community Sphere, Susan will be helping members and communities to co-create a strong network where ideas and information will be shared, connections will be made, and sustainable solutions will be discussed and manifested.

Susan says, “I plan to provide as much nurturing and guidance as I can as we learn from each other and grow this sphere into a positive force together. When people unite to accomplish anything with good intentions, the possibilities are only limited by our imaginations.”

Wow - today's first show was a quite a rush for all of us! The Green Talk Network is still working out the system of the new network and there are many features that are still in the works - including the movable audio widgets. We don't know yet when the first show will be archived and available for on-demand listening but we hope it will be soon because we know that many people probably did not catch the noon broadcast. We noticed that it was re-broadcasted a couple times during the day and we hope many of you were able to catch it. We are doing the final editing right now on the next couple of shows and we are stoked about our upcoming shows and awesome guests. Sustainable Matrix Weaving...

This past week since the launch has been full of all kinds of activity. Between the sending out of press releases, "Awards of Excellence" packages to the Interdependent Fellowship organizations, and the process of slowly building the platform for the Community Sphere, its good to slow down from a blur for a few minutes with a cup of tea to check in with all of you.

The "Interdependent Day" story:

(If you don't have time for the long-winded version just skip to the bottom but be sure to cast your vote on the new date and give us the thumbs up or down on our choice to change the name)

When this project began we had the vision of initiating an annual global "Interdependence Day" so we checked to see if the domain was available - it wasn't and the sites and activities around that namesake were not at all in alignment with our own vision...

The .org was a military O.I. Operation Interdependence whose mission was to keep the military well supplied with what they called "civilian rations" and the .com was a "Call to Union" Intercontinental Congress...the .net was a politically orientated initiative around the 9/11 incident.

So what were we to do? We wanted to have an Interdependence Day that allowed for a celebration of the accomplishments and coming together of friends/family/community in healthy acknowledgment of interdependence.

What we did was decide to call it "Interdependent Day" (those domains were available) and have the event fall on a day that coincided with Earth time - we chose December 22 - World-Wide Solstice and actually celebrated it last year on that date when we were still in the strategy/planning stages of this project. We moved that date to January 11th for reasons we won't go into here but we feel this needs to be changed as well.

So just this past week we were in a quandary around what to do about the name and the date when a new matrix weaver sent us a nice email and a few simple suggestions...one of them was to change the name from Interdependent to Interdependence - this simple contribution kicked the dominoes and we decided that it does not matter if other org's or ventures exist out there with the same name - right? You let us know - give us the thumbs up or thumbs down on the change in the box to your right....

We also want to change the date now of course and we were thinking of Summer Solstice June 21st - give us the yay or nay on that one. We are in the process of building a team that could actually devote some energy towards anchoring this event into the "collective good excuses for a celebration"

"INVITATIONS To Declare Interdependence"

Because the main site is a labor-of-love-hand-made-html site where we are managing our content (not a CMS site) we lack some features that make it easy to share and invite people to check it out. We want to make it easy for you to be able to share the site with others so we were kicking around some ideas beyond the "send email with link" obvious solution. We think invitations should be attractive so we were checking into ecards but they are pretty lame in our opinion -unless they are professionally made (like the one's we will have for the IP Radio show)

So we created this graphic that you see here and we want to know if this is an invitation that you would be proud to send to your friends/family/tribe - we could send it to all of you embedded into an email with the link to the site that you could easily forward to friends with a note from you added.....??

We want to make sure that anything we create for you in this matrix is something that you want and approve of so that we don't waste our shared precious time....so please take a moment to let us know what you think of the design and whether or not you would use it to send invitations in the poll next to this post....thumbs up or thumbs down...and most important...PLEASE...IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS LEAVE A COMMENT ON THIS BLOG or email us if you prefer to share in private - we've noticed that most of you weavers prefer this method from the lack of comments on this blog and our stuffed email boxes.

Greetings!

We are writing to let everyone know that our website launch has been delayed due to the general chaos, panic, and disorder culminating around the Obama/McCain presidential election.

Our project is not politically orientated, but we have been deeply affected by it in terms of being able to communicate and correspond with the many people, organizations, and businesses that we are working with.

Right now it seems that everyone is holding their breaths and there is an overall tension around the economy and direction the U.S. will be heading. We felt it would be wise to delay the November 11th launch until everyone is able to take a big in-breathe (sigh of relief) and return to the work of building a sustainable reality. We are confident that the torch is being passed and the next generation is stepping into leadership – a grassroots “leader who follows” is emerging at this time. We will keep everyone posted – we are thinking around November 22nd would be good…

Just 28 days now until the official launch of the website! We have been spiraling and spinning the spheres of this project and these past few weeks it has become even more apparent to all of us that never before has there been such a great need and opportunity to bring forth positive inspiration and sustainable solutions!

The Interdependent Project's mission to deliver regenerative mult-media information and world-bridge sustainable solutions into the matrix of our existence has been going through refinement and tuning while we build our site.

Our desire to bring forth information that has been overlooked and under-reported in regards to solutions and innovative ideas that improve our lives and ability to create a world that expresses the highest standards of living is what has fueled us during this whole process of birthing this project into reality. We have discovered that many people within the movement are more than ready to rise to the occasion of delivering this cutting edge information and we are proud of our guest roster for the Interdependent Project Radio show. When the website launches we will have a sneak preview of our guests as well as some great interactive features that will allow the interdependent community to begin co-creating a web portal that will be the one-stop sustainable solutions hub.

The above "Tree of Sustainability" will be the core of our site and shows. The ten branches will each have their own page that will expand into many areas that will deliver a non-stop flow of information and resources that have met the Interdependent Project's content quality standards. LAUNCH DATES CONFIRMED

Hi everyone!

Now that we have secured our new host platform, the “Green Talk Network” and had time to conference with the Modavox team in regards to the official launch date of the channel, we have decided on a date for our own launches – the launch of our website and the launch of the radio programs.

We are excited to announce that we will officially launch our Main Website 8 short weeks from now on November 11, 2008.

The “Green Talk Network” channel will launch on January 1, 2009 and our first segment will air on January 5^th, 2009!

We have over 30 interviews with leaders and pioneers in the sustainability movement already confirmed and over the following weeks we will be recording these interviews and building our website. We will have a “sneak peek” of some of our guests posted soon – we meant to get it up last week but we were swamped with moving to our new headquarters and conferencing with our executive producer to get all of our trees lined up…So mark your calendars for the dates mentioned above and we will be making announcements more frequently as we move forward.

We want to thank everyone again who has played vital roles in this pre-launch process - it has been quite a ride so far and we look forward to giving a new meaning to "G" Force when we officially launch!

YES – YES – YES…. Just 4 weeks since we made first contact with our new host platform ....we are proud to announce that we have officially signed a one year contract for Interdependent Project Radio!

We would like to first send a huge wave of appreciation to our core team members and a special pulse to Greg Landua for his efforts during these past four weeks that created the portal for the successful signing of the contract with Modavox. This man juggles the spheres while flying through the skies across Turtle Island! Cheers to the IP Team!

We would next like to announce that the Interdependent Project Radio will be launching on the Modavox Voice America™ new “Green Talk Network”.

And now we would like to say a warm welcome to our new Executive Producer, Brandy Jackson! Brandy has brought a bright torch to the fires of this project illumined by not only her professional skills/expertise, but her passionate support and enthusiasm for the success of our launch. Working with her these past weeks has fueled us with so much energy/excitement and we know with her on our team that these coming weeks up to the launch are going to be incredible!

Brandy J. Jackson 37 years old, single mother to Elijah Jackson 14 years old. Brandy is the Network Director for WorldTalk Radio, Modavox, Inc.’s Corporate Trainer and a Senior Executive Producer for the VoiceAmerica Network.

Very important and exciting developments have occurred since our return from Colorado on July 21st. We have to move our launch date forward because We have found a new professional platform for the Interdependent Project Radio! Our new platform delivers the following benefits:

Interdependent Project Radio will be launching within our new host companies "green" channel
The Interdependent Project Radio will now have a professional Executive Producer and professional engineers who handle all of the recording and broadcasting of our segments including professional opening and closings to each segment.
Our segments will be available on all of the Web2.0 features offered by the former host + iTunes download capability (big big plus)
Interdependent Project Radio will have a branded desktop icon available for listeners.
All segments will be broadcasted twice before being archived for on demand listeners.

The Interdependent Project Core Team is quite the maverick group that has come together to launch this inevitable matrix.

In our past posts and emails we have said that this project is "youth led" which it initially started out as. Now that our team has come together we are changing that to "youthful led"! So far we reside across the United States from the West coast to the East and look forward to our team growing to span the globe.

“Dandarius” – Daniel & Darlene Cavallaro are the founders of the Interdependent Project, but feel that the real “founders” are the millions of people worldwide who have thrown their whole lives into pioneering sustainable solutions. They would prefer to use the title “maestros” of interdependence ~ but acquiesce for prudence sake. The essence of this project was birthed by Daniel and the framework was organized by Darlene. They were both born/raised in Grass Valley, California and met when they bumped into each other while jumping off a cliff… Daniel is president of SeThInk Books & Sound Publications and author of the upcoming music education program Of Sound Mind™. Darlene is a writer, artist, healing arts practitioner, and communication studies major. Their shared mutual passion of advocating sustainable solutions and the Interdependent Project was birthed from listening to the sounds of the collective voice of their own generation, and observing the collective wisdom of their elders.

Jason Deptula and Alayne Chauncey were both raised in the Northern Virginia. They met while studying at VA Tech and found in each other that special shared alignment of worldview and ideals. Together, they “jumped into the rabbit hole” soon after Alayne graduated from VA Tech. In 2000, Jason and Alayne conceived their only child, and Alyxandra Grayce was born at home at “The Farm”, in Summertown TN, with the assistance of the amazing midwives there. They now live as full members of The Farm Community. Jason has been working with alternative fuels for the past several years. He has made modifications to quite a few diesel motors so they can burn used vegetable oil instead of petroleum diesel. Jason currently works at The Farm Ecovillage Training Center as site manager, as well as project manager of the Biofuels Research Cooperative. His goal with this newly formed co-op is to make high quality, clean and affordable fuels from agricultural wastes and other plant-based renewable sources. Alayne is currently manager at the EcoVillage Hostel and serves on the Board of Directors at the Farm Foundation. Jason and Alayne are powerful advocates of sustainable community living and bring their insight, brilliance, and talent into the Interdependent Project matrix to help string the pearls of sustainable wisdom together for the collective weaving of solutions.

Gregory Landua is an active member of the cooperative movement towards Earth regeneration. As a Gaia University Associate, NextGEN Fellow, and Bioregional Organizer he works actively in the fields of permaculture, ecovillage design, regenerative education and regenerative media. Trained in the facilitation arts, he is interested in the collective process of birthing a new culture and the ecology of love. A Native Cascadian, Gregory is the Program Coordinator at the Ecovillage Training Center on The Farm in Summertown Tennessee and is helping to crystallize the collective vision of regeneration into a shared enterprise through collaboration with the Interdependence Project, Living Mandala design collective and Nemawashi.org. Steve Bhaerman, aka "Swami Beyondananda" is an internationally-known author, humorist, and workshop leader. For the past 20 years, he has written and performed as Swami Beyondananda, the "Cosmic Comic." Swami's comedy has been called "irreverenly uplifting" and has been described both as "comedy disguised as wisdom" and "wisdom disguised as comedy."

Steve is the author of four books, Driving Your own Karma (1989), When You See a Sacred Cow, Milk It For All It's Worth (1993), Duck Soup for the Soul (1999) and his latest, Swami for Precedent: A 7-Step Plan to Heal the Body Politic and Cure Electile Dysfunction. Swami's nationally syndicated spoof advice column, Dear Swami -- along with his comedy performances -- have found a wide and appreciative audience. In his "past life" (before Swami), Steve started an alternative high school in Washington, D.C. and co-authored a book about his experiences, No Particular Place to Go: A Making of a Free High School. A political science major, he later taught history to autoworkers at Wayne State University in Detroit as part of the Weekend College. In 1980, Steve co-founded Pathways Magazine in Ann Arbor, Michigan, one of the first publications bringing together holistic health, personal growth, spirituality, and politics. He also taught creative writing at University of Michigan (1976-86), worked for several years as a freelance writer, and is the co-author of a successful self-help book, Friends and Lovers: How to Meet the People You Want to Meet (Writer's Digest Books, 1986)

For the past two years, Steve has written a political blog with a spiritual perspective, Notes from the Trail that has been hailed as an encouraging voice "in the bewilderness." He is currently writing a book with cellular biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton (author of "The Biology of Belief") called Spontaneous Evolution: Our Positive Future and a Way to Get There From Here. He currently resides in Santa Rosa, California with his wife Trudy.

We cannot believe it has been a month since our last post. This project is exploding sideways and we have been busy with our core team organizing our radio channel show categories, sending requests for interviews to the "best of the best" within the sustainability movement, learning how to use the internet radio technology of our host company, and generally surfing a pretty high wave of excitement. We have neglected to send out updates to our subscribers and this post is to just say that this next week we will be sending updates and posting our "Meet the Team" article on this blog. If you have come here to learn more about the project we want to thank you for visiting and that the information on earlier posts have been changing as we move through the process of organizing this matrix. Sometimes in life when one moves forward with persistence and perseverance in the face of ridiculous odds a magical thing happens...an opportunity for vision to manifest into reality...

During these last two weeks we have been rising to the occasion of an amazing opportunity that has opened up for this project by team building to bring together the "best of the best" within a network of individuals, organizations, and communities to form a core sphere that will reflect the many branches of the sustainability movement.

The occasion?

The launch of a 24/7 global internet radio channel dedicated to the sustainability movement with exclusive focus on solutions.

We thought we would be launching the projects website on Solstice - now things have completely changed and we are moving towards launching this awesome media platform on this day instead.

We will be introducing our partners, team members, allies, and sponsors on this blog as we move forward and doing our best to keep everyone informed. This has been quite a surprise for us and we are on a bit of a learning curve. We appreciate any comments and posts to this blog and will soon have our newsletter updated for all of you who have signed up for the Interdependent Project.

In our beginning…

The idea for creating the Interdependent Project was birthed from the great need that exists to popularize the concepts and lifestyles within the sustainability movement.

There exists an important and untold story within the tales & experiences of those who have been Pioneers of the sustainability movement for the past 40+ years and it is in the telling of those stories that we shall find the deepest well of inspiration that will light the fires of our common desire to raise our standards as a species and recognize our most potent creative power to co-create the world of our dreams. There exists on this planet legions of human beings who are full-on engaged in laying down the foundation for our future and anchoring in what the Interdependent Project will be calling the “sustainable spherical grid” or the “sustainable living matrix”.

The Interdependent Project will be the place where these stories shall be told in a way that allows individuals who have never even heard of the sustainability movement to get a clear picture of what the movement really is about, as well as educate even the most seasoned veteran's of the movement how to recognize their own right place and contribution within it.

Birthing from Clarity…

It is very important to address the issue of separation that exists among all the various groups and collectives present on the planet these days in a way that simplifies the issue rather than complicates it. The Interdependent Project recognizes “separation” as a part of “unity” because that which separates also bonds. To allow ourselves to accept our interdependence means that we allow ourselves our separate individual independence within the whole. This is the evolutionary leap within ourselves that will remove the “threat” from “belonging”…there can be no “whole” without your independent separate self present to perceive it….there cannot be an independent separate self without being dependent upon the unity of the whole…full circle sphere…not that complicated really – Welcome to the spherical matrix of the Interdependent Project…

In the beginning...

The Interdependent Project began zillions of years ago - actually it had no beginning and has no end - ALL THAT IS = interdependence...

We human beings are becoming aware of this and so our human interdependent project began with the very first collectives - family/tribe/community which evolved through various civilization experiments throughout history.

We find ourselves now at a very important juncture in our cultures where we have the opportunity to make more conscious choices about the future direction of our evolution and during the past decades there has been an emergence within our collective to return to a more solid sense of family/tribe/community and seek out sustainable ways of living.

Most organizations in the past have had to focus on educating the public about the nature of our problems in relationship to living on this planet and due to the success of these endeavors most people these days are ready to move toward implementing solutions. There has been minimum coverage in the media about actual real life solutions and the sustainability movement as a whole is scattered across the internet making it difficult for someone who knows nothing to find inspiring information about the progress we are making as a species.

One of the major obstacles in actually living a sustainable lifestyle has been economic barriers that we face when making the transition - our present economy was not built on sustainable principles.

The truth of the matter is that we have an opportunity to reshape our economy through our own demand upon the marketplace. Over the last few decades there has been an explosion of demand for sustainable goods/services/products (ie: organic food, alternative energy, green building) and this trend is not going to slow down. One of our goals is to bring all of this data to the forefront and take the next step in further popularizing these choices because as we all know it is only what is considered "vogue" in our culture that moves the masses. We must accept this fact and use it to validate that we are indeed a "herd" species and come to a comfortable understanding of our interdependence.

When given only the dual option between dependence and independence, the human spirit naturally strives toward the most ennobled condition (independence) and shuns that which diminishes the sense of self (dependence). Interdependence is a fairly new word, yet it is the word that defines the reality of our world – all life is interdependent. Interdependence provides a third option to define ourselves by, that if chosen, can further evolve our race by allowing us to leap over the barriers of dualistic limitations, thus bringing us closer to our shared goal of excellence and value fulfillment as a species. Recognition of our Interdependence with each other and all life is the first step toward creating a sustainable world and future for our children.
